Need some cute Halloween craft ideas for you and your kids to do together this Halloween? These adorable Halloween handprint crafts are the perfect solution!

Four different Halloween themed handprint crafts for kids

I’ve been on a mission to do more crafts with my kids this year. They love to do crafts together, and while it’s not my favorite activity in the world, I love to see them happy! I’m working to come up with cute, seasonal craft ideas for them, and this Halloween I decided we’d do some handprint crafts to get them in the spirit!

You can use handprints, footprints, or even just knuckle prints and finger prints to make adorable witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and other monsters. It’s a great Halloween activity and you could even choose a few different handprint crafts to try out throughout the season.

There are tons of Halloween handprint craft ideas out there, and I’ll round up a few of our favorites at the bottom of the post. But first, let’s chat about what we did!

My kids love nothing more than busting out the paint for a super messy craft, so I decided to indulge them and paint our handprints.

If you want something a little less, um, chaotic, you can always just cut out your handprints and decorate them that way!

But, you know, if you’re going to do it you might as well go all in, right?!

We decided to make a few different monsters with our handprints. You can get really creative with this and come up with all sorts of different monsters, but we made:

  • A ghost
  • Vampire
  • A pumpkin
  • Frankenstein

Check out the list of ideas below for even more Halloween-y things you can make with handprints (including a haunted house!).

Ghost Handprint Craft

You’ll need…

  • Black construction paper
  • White paint
  • Googly eyes

A ghost handprint is possibly the most simple handprint craft of them all. You only need one color of paint and some googly eyes – that’s it!

Paint the white paint on your child’s hand, then firmly press it onto the paper. You can have them hold their fingers together for a more traditional ghost look, or you can have them spread their fingers out for it to be a little more obviously a handprint.

Once the paint dries, place a couple of dots of glue near the top of the ghost and add the eyes. Bonus points if they’re a little wonky, because that makes the ghost look a little friendlier!

Plus, we like our crafts a little wonky around here.

Vampire Handprint Craft

You’ll need…

  • Any color construction paper
  • Black paint
  • White, tan, or brown paint
  • A black marker (or Googly eyes!)

You can definitely get a little more creative for the vampire, and let your kids run a little wild here.

Start by painting a skin color on your child’s palm – we went with white because it was all we had, but vampires are typically pale, so it worked! Leave the top part of the palm unpainted, for the hair.

Then, paint their fingers (including the thumb) black. Be sure to go down a little bit onto their palm and create a V-shaped hairline. You can always fix it a bit afterwards (we did), but do what you can on your child’s hand!

Press the hand firmly onto the paper. Once the paint has dried, let them add a face, maybe a collar around his neck, or even some blood dripping down from his mouth!

Pumpkin Handprint Craft

You’ll need…

  • Black or white construction paper
  • Orange paint
  • Green paint
  • Black paint

Start by painting your child’s palm orange and their fingers green. I’d recommend skipping their thumb for this one!

Have them press their hand firmly onto the paper – I recommend making sure their fingers are spread out. Our pumpkin looks a little like a pineapple, if you ask me!

Once the paint dries, use the black paint (or a Sharpie) to paint a jack-o-lantern face on the pumpkin.

Frankenstein Handprint Craft

You’ll need…

  • Any color construction paper
  • Green paint
  • Black paint
  • Markers and/or googly eyes

Paint your child’s palm green and their fingers black. We left out the thumb for this one!

Press their hand firmly onto the paper. Once the paint dries, let them go to town making a face. My child just used a marker, but I think I would have used googly eyes! He also forgot the bolts on his neck, I think it might look more like Frankenstein if we’d added those!
